Price Ping ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use the Price Ping mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the terms of this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Email address and username when you register
- Password (stored as a one-way hash — we never store it in plain text)
- Price submissions including product name, price, store, and optional barcode or photo
- Votes you cast on other users' price submissions
Information collected automatically:
- General location (city/region) when you search for nearby prices — only if you grant permission
- Device type and operating system for app compatibility
- App usage logs for debugging and performance monitoring
Information from third-party sign-in (Google / Microsoft):
- Your email address and display name from your Google or Microsoft account
- We do not receive your password from these providers
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account
- To display price submissions to other users in your area
- To detect and remove fraudulent or spam submissions
- To improve app features and fix bugs
- To respond to support requests
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. Community Submissions
Price submissions you make are visible to all users of the Service. This includes the product name, store, price, and the time of submission. Your username may be associated with your submissions. If you delete your account, your submissions remain in the database anonymously to preserve community data, but your username and email are removed.
4. Location Data
We request access to your device location only to show you nearby store prices. Location data is used in real time and is not stored on our servers. You can deny location permission and still use the app with reduced functionality.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on servers located in the United States (DigitalOcean) and Canada (Supabase). We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and JWT-based authentication. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the Profile screen in the app. Upon deletion, your personal information (email, username, password hash) is permanently removed within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
Price Ping is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Google Sign-In — subject to Google's Privacy Policy
- Microsoft Sign-In — subject to Microsoft's Privacy Policy
- Supabase — database hosting
- DigitalOcean — server hosting
- Grafana Cloud — application logging
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your account and associated personal data
- Withdraw consent for location access at any time via device settings
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
